Laying out masking for the blue stripeson the deck  began on the Atlas the first of October 2002. The 3 inchwide dark blue stripes were shot first.
Masking paper covers the areas to be laterpainted light blue.
Although not quite ready for colors, therear cowl was placed on the boat to lay out the stripes on the front cowl.

Don Mock sharpens up the paint lines witha razor blade. Once the stripes were cleaned up, the deck was shot witha coat of clear to protect it.
The crew applies the vinyl masking filmfor the lettering. A "floating" fluid was used to slide the vinyl intoposition. 
Computer cut masking film made layingout the lettering fairly easy.

Once the boat was completely masked off,the red paint for the lettering was sprayed.
The lettering was still a bit transparentafter the first coat. Two more were applied later.
Ron Brown carefully peels the mask awayrevealing the famous logo.
Museum Director David Williams also joinedin removing the masking film.
With the deck stripes and lettering meticuslydetailed, the Atlas was turned over and suspended high in the air in preparationfor the final clear coat.
The deck received over three coats ofclear which will be lightly sanded and polished.
